ADA settlement for Brown Mackie campuses

In a settlement with the U.S. Justice Department, the Brown Mackie College system has agreed to improve accessibility for the disabled on 19 U.S. campuses. The for-profit system focuses on career education and is owned by Education Management Corp.
The settlement calls for the schools to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act by removing architectural barriers from its facilities. Brown Mackie leases all of its campus buildings, the Justice Department says.
Among the violations that are to be corrected on Brown Mackie sites: doors that are too narrow; round doorknobs; inadequate space for maneuvering wheelchairs near doors; abrupt level changes along required routes; steep ramps; inaccessible toilet rooms; water fountains with spouts that are too high; and lack of accessible visual fire alarms.
