Smoking Banned at University of Michigan Football Stadium

Jul 1, 2010 12:00 PM

As the university completes a $226 million renovation of the facility, officials have decided to extend that ban to stadium concourses and all other parts of the facility.

When the University of Michigan begins its 2010 home football schedule in September, smoking in the 108,000-seat Michigan Stadium will be entirely off limits.

Smoking already had been banned in the seating area, but had been permitted on the concourses of the stadium, known on the Ann Arbor campus as the Big House. But as the university completes a $226 million renovation of the facility, officials have decided to extend that ban to stadium concourses and all other parts of the facility.

The smoking prohibition is part of the university’s commitment to make the Ann Arbor campus smoke-free by 2011.
