The 44,000-square-foot dance complex at Point Park University, Pittsburgh, has received LEED-NC gold.

The three-story building features an Energy-Star-rated roof; water-saving systems; sustainable wood floors; and low-emitting paints, carpeting and other materials. Project highlights include 24 percent energy cost savings from HVAC systems and lighting, 40 percent savings with water-efficient fixtures, 85 percent of demolition and construction waste diverted from landfills, 25 percent of building materials manufactured within 500 miles, and 20 percent of materials consisting of recycled content.

The building contains five rehearsal studios and performance spaces with room for three additional studios. It features continuous air-quality monitoring; lighting and temperature controls; and windows set high on bright, reflective interior walls, allowing daylight to flood the spaces.

The Design Alliance (Pittsburgh) is the architect.
