A multi-phased renovation is underway at Lewis & Clark Career Center, St. Charles, Mo., as part of a long-term master plan that was formulated in 2003 to unify the four buildings on the 40-year-old campus.
Phase I redevelopment, completed in December 2005, included a new HVAC system and electrical system upgrades.
Recently completed phase II renovations feature an 1,887-square-foot space that replicates a supermarket with two checkout lanes, a loading dock, walk-in cooler and several shelving units. Phase II also improved lighting and ventilation in the welding classroom; added classrooms for automotive repair; expanded the automotive collision facility; added new restrooms; and relocated all classrooms to the main level. Outside, buildings were connected so students no longer are exposed to the elements during class changes.
Phase III will resurface parking lots and improve adjoining access roads.
The architect is Wm. B. Ittner, Inc. (St. Louis). Morrissey Construction (Godfrey, Ill.) is the general contractor.
