Majority of Texas Public School Students are Hispanic

The Texas Education Agency reports that for the first time in modern Texas history, students of Hispanic ancestry make up a majority of those enrolled in the state’s public schools.

Statistics for 2010-2011 show that 2,480,000 students are Hispanic—50.2 percent of the total enrollment, which is 4,933,617.

The ethnicity breakdown of Texas public school students:

Native: 23,602

•Asian: 169,338

•Hispanic: 2,480,000

•Native Hawaiian/Other

Pacific: 6,127

•Two or More Races: 78,419

•White: 1,538,409
