A hand in hiring

HR software features hiring tool that eases filtration of job applicants for school administration

PowerObjects

Fridley Public Schools (Minn.) posted one job online for a third-grade teacher in spring 2007 and received more than 600 applications. Using powerHR from PowerObjects, the district was able to handle these applications with ease.

The system enables greater management and better control of the hiring process. It makes it easier for applicants to apply for jobs, with the requisite documents attached; establishes online distribution to all users to review applicants and their materials; sets criteria for ranking applicants; ranks applicants for faster review of qualifications; makes the database searchable from any location at any time by multiple users; secures the database with online protection; and enables employees to add or delete templates as needed without a major overhaul of the system.

Aside from making the hiring process easier for staff, it also has made it more engaging for applicants.

"We've seen that the software program seems to inspire applicants to make more complete applications, which benefits them and helps our staff make the best hiring choice," says Peggy Flathmann, director of educational services. The district also discovered that the program comes with exceptional customer service.

"Usually if we have a problem with the system, or an upgrade has to take place, the guys at PowerObjects let us know how long it will take," says Flathmann. "Generally, it's the same day, but if it's going to be longer, they communicate that to us."
