Chicago school system will move headquarters to smaller space

District will move to rented office space and try to sell the downtown building that houses its central administration.

The Chicago school district is moving its headquarters to smaller offices in the city's downtown. The Chicago Sun-Times says will move from a 19-story building that it bought in 1998 to rented office space a few blocks away. The school system will try to sell the building it is leaving. Officials say renting a smaller amount of space will cost less than staying where it is now and paying operations and maintenance costs.
