The U.S. Department of Energy has given a key approval for a massive physics research project at Michigan State University that is expected to boost the East Lansing school's status as a premier center for nuclear science. The Detroit News reports that the estimated cost of the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams is $730 million and is expected tol be completed in 2022. The project will pursue scientific breakthroughs by creating and studying elements that do not normally occur naturally on Earth.
