Gift will enable Ohio Wesleyan University to restore 140-year-old building

June 27, 2013
Merrick Hall has been closed for 25 years.

Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio, has received an $8 million gift — the largest donation in the university’s history — to restore and reopen one of its oldest academic buildings. The Columbus Dispatch says the donation will enable the university to reopen Merrick Hall, which has been closed for more than 25 years, in 2015. The gift comes from a couple who met at the private liberal-arts college and have asked to remain anonymous. Merrick Hall opened in 1873 and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
