District plans to hire 1,087 aides to work at more than 400 elementary schools

The Los Angeles Unified School District plans to hire more than 1,000 campus security aides for elementary schools, The Los Angeles Daily News says. Some critics have called the plan "security on the cheap." More than 400 elementary school campuses in the district will receive a minimum of two on each campus as early as March 1. The campus aides will be unarmed but equipped with two-way radios and vests, according to a district memo.
