Los Angeles district still working on security issues involving iPads

Sept. 26, 2013
Students at 47 campuses have received the tablet computers; eventually the district plans to provide one to every student.

The Los Angeles Unified School District is working to prevent a recurrence of a security breach that involved 300 iPads provided to students. The Los Angeles Daily News also reports that the district is trying to determine who is responsible--the district or students' parents--if the devices are lost, stolen or broken. The district discovered last week that students at three high schools had bypassed security measures on their iPads to access unauthorized websites. Because most of the students tampered with the computers while they were off-campus, Superintendent John Deasy has prohibited the devices from being taken home. Students at 47 campuses in the Los Angeles district are getting iPads this year; by this time next year, the district plans to equip every student with a tablet computer
