Louisiana approves plan to let some students continue attending school in Arkansas

Up to 100 students from Claiborne Parish will be able to attend public school in Junction City, Ark.

Up to 100 students in northwest Louisiana will be allowed to attend school in Arkansas through an unusual arrangement that routes financial aid from Louisiana through a charter school. The Baton Rouge Advocate says the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education approved the plan to resolve a problem that arose when the Claiborne Parish School Board ended a nearly century-old arrangement that allowed some Louisiana students to attend classes conducted by Junction City (Ark.) School District No. 75. To enable those students to continue attending school in Junction City, Lousiana has approved an arrangement in which Delhi Charter School in Richland Parish will enroll the students from Claiborne Parish. Delhi will then contract with the Junction City District so that students can attend classes there. Otherwise, students would have to be bused to low-performing schools run by the Claiborne Parish school system, state officials say.
