Miami superintendent gets 5-year contract extension

The Miami-Dade School Board has voted to negotiate a five-year extension and a raise of up to $70,000 for Superintendent Alberto Carvalho. But, The Miami Herald reports, Carvalho says he will accept far less. He now is paid the $275,000 salary he received when he became superintendent in 2008. Carvalho says he will negotiate a salary of up to $320,000, but will reimburse the district for any portion of that salary increase that rose beyond the percentage value of the median teachers’ raise.
