The American Nonsmokers' Rights Foundation reports that as of July 8, at least 1,182 college and university campuses in the United States are entirely smokefree. Of that number, 798 campuses have a 100 percent tobacco-free policy.
To further discourage smoking and other uses of tobacco, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has created the Tobacco-Free College Campus Initiative. It promotes and supports the adoption of tobacco-free policies at universities, colleges, and other institutions of higher learning.
