Students' trash is others' treasure

At the end of spring semester on a college campus, students may leave lots of stuff behind that ends up in landfills. The Tallahassee Democrat reports on Florida State University's efforts to save some of the stuff that still is usable and donate it to agencies that redistribute items to the needy. This spring, the "Chuck it for Charity" campaign, a partnership between FSU Sustainable Campus and Housing & Residence Life, collected more than 29,000 pounds of stuff. Some of this year’s best items: 3 bikes, 12 pairs of crutches, 19 bags of stuffed animals, 22 microwaves, and 119 mirrors and 1 grill.
