Superintendent search suspended for unified Memphis-Shelby County school system

The school board for the unified Memphis-Shelby County district has suspended its search for a superintendent. WREG-TV says the firm conducting a candidate search recommended the delay because while the two districts are merging into one, the job has too many challenges to attract the right candidates. The school systems become one in July, and Dorsey Hopson will continue as interim superintendent. The district expects to undertake a new search next school year. The administrators who had been running the districts--Memphis Superintendent Kriner Cash and Shelby County Superintendent John Aitken--opted to leave before the consolidation occurs.
