Suspect in Taft, Calif., high school shooting faces adult charges


From The Bakersfield Californian: A 16-year-old student has been charged as an adult with attempted murder in the shooting of a fellow student at a Taft, Calif., high school. Bryan Oliver, 16, is charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of assault with a firearm. Oliver is being held in juvenile hall. Authorities say he opened fire with a shotgun in a classroom at Taft Union High School. Bowe Cleveland, also 16, was wounded and has undergone surgery to repair his abdominal and chest area. Authorities say the second attempted murder count was related to classmate Jacob Nichols. Witnesses say Oliver was asking about Nichols' whereabouts as he waved his shotgun in the classroom.
