Teachers protest large class sizes in Clark County (Nev.) schools

Teachers in the Clark County (Nev.) district have staged a rally to call attention to the school system's burgeoning class sizes, which are among the largest in the nation. The Las Vegas Sun says schools in Clark County were forced to increase class sizes during the recession. As a result, middle and high schools in the district now have average class sizes of 34 and 35 students. Elementary schools have average class sizes of 20 to 21 in the first to third grades, and average class sizes of 33 and 34 in the fourth and fifth grades, according to district officials.
