Texas district appeals court ruling over banners with religious themes

The Kountze (Texas) school district is appealing a ruling that allows high school cheerleaders to use religious themes on banners at football games, The Beaumont Enterprise reports that attorneys for the district are asking an appeals court to clarify a lower court ruling so that future litigation is not necessary. Supporters of the cheerleaders' banners sued the district last year after the superintendent, responding to a complaint about the banners, prohibited the cheerleaders from displaying messages with religious content. A Hardin County judge ruled earlier this month that students were not prohibited from displaying the banners.
