Officials hope the 5,200-seat arena will compete with other midsize venues in the region

Tiger Arena, the new $70 million arena at Towson University in Baltimore County, Md., is opening tonight. The Baltimore Sun says the school built the facility with a goal of bolstering its sports program and attracting business. Officials say they hope the 5,200-seat arena will compete with other midsize venues in the region. Besides accommodating Towson's games and events, the facility could host concerts, traveling shows, speakers, sports camps and business meetings.
