Wake County, N.C., commissioners try again for more say in school construction

Nov. 19, 2013
Commissioners are asking school board to give them more influence in decisions about design and construction of facilities

The Wake County (N.C.) Board of Commissioners wants the county's school board to give commissioners more influence over the design, construction and renovation of school facilities. The Raleigh News & Observer says the commssion's request for a greater voice in school construction came in the form of a proposed interlocal agreement that establishes terms for when commissioners would take responsibility for school construction. Last summer, Republican commissioners failed to get legislative approval of a bill that would have let the commission take over school construction from the school board.
