Witnesses say girl ran into the street after getting off bus

From The Las Vegas Sun: Fifth-grader Kaylee Renee Derks rode her normal school bus and got off at the stop near her Las Vegas neighborhood. Minutes later, the bus fatally struck the 11-year-old about a block into her neighborhood. Clark County (Nev.) School District officials say the bus driver and three students still on board were not injured.

UPDATE...from The Las Vegas Review-Journal: Clark County District officials say they've changed the route of the bus involved in the accident that killed a fifth-grade girl in Las Vegas. The bus now will avoid the residential neighborhood and turn around in a commercial center. District officials did not say the route through the neighborhood was dangerous. Instead, they said, they were changing it out of respect for the family and the community.
