Newport Beach, Calif., school evacuated; student arrested

Authorities have arrested a 12-year-old boy who they said brought bomb-making materials to his Newport Beach, Calif., school, stowing some of the items in his locker. Students at Horace Ensign Intermediate School in the Newport Mesa Unified School District were evacuated to an athletic field as a bomb squad swept the campus. The boy, who was not identified, was taken to Orange County Juvenile Hall while authorities investigated the incident.

ALSO: A student at Mandeville (La.) High School has been arrested after saying he was going to blow up the campus and kill the president of the United States. The incident was the seventh threat made last week against schools in the St. Tammany parish; six students have since been arrested.
