Improvement would affect more than 6,000 students

From The Boston Globe: Boston School Superintendent Carol R. Johnson has disclosed the names of 14 schools slated for massive overhauls, reinvention, or possible closing. The plan would affect more than 6,000 students. The options under consideration in Johnson’s plan include major shake-ups in a school’s administrative team and teaching staff, extending the school day, or closing a failing school and reopening a new school in its building.

EARLIER...from The Boston Globe: At least a dozen Boston schools - many in neighborhoods with high rates of crime, poverty, and teenage pregnancy - are being targeted for dramatic overhauls, reinvention, or closing. The proposal, a swift and aggressive response to recent criticism of the city’s schools, will affect thousands of students at elementary, middle, and high schools that have with the lowest test scores. Administrators have made little headway in bolstering student achievement at those schools.
