2 charter schools in Montgomery County, Md., are proposed

April 29, 2010
If approved, they would be the district's 1st charters
From The Washington Post: Although charter schools have become firmly established Washington, D.C., neighboring Montgomery County, Md., is a charter desert. No such schools operate there, but two groups aim to change that. They have filed applications with the Montgomery County school board. The Community Montessori School would be an elementary school for low-income students. Global Gardens Public Charter School would operate an elementary International Baccalaureate program. District officials, who will decide on the applications in June, say they're looking for something that would complement what public schools offer.
