Board says action is necessary to deal with $4 milion budget shortfall

Despite the impassioned pleas of parents, teachers and community members, theLittleton (Colo.) school board has voted to close two elementary schools. Board members, citing a projected $4 million budget shortfall for next school year, say they had no other choice. About 150 people showed up at a school board meeting to persuade the board not to shutter Ames and Whitman elementary schools because of low enrollment.
