From The Augusta Chronicle: A $236 million school bond referendum in the Aiken County (S.C.) district has been defeated. Seventy percent of residents voted against the $236 million referendum, which would have provided funds to upgrade six school facilities.

The money would enable the district to build a new North Augusta High School; renovate Aiken High School: create a new middle school by combining New Ellenton and Jackson middle schools; build a new Ridge Spring-Monetta Elementary/Middle facility at the site of Ridge Spring-Monetta High; build a new Leavelle-McCampbell Middle School; and upgrade the Aiken County Career and Technology Center.
