$348 million bond wins approval in Mount Diablo (Calif.) district

Money will pay for more than 800 improvement projects at 53 sites

From The San Jose Mercury-News: Voters in the Mount Diablo (Calif.) district have approved a $348 million school bond. Measure C will provide money for 817 facility improvement projects at 53 sites. According to the district's facilities improvement plan, more than half of the bond construction money will be spent on solar structures and air conditioning; the rest is earmarked for technology, new classrooms, maintenance and other projects.

EARLIER: From The San Jose Mercury-News: The Mount Diablo (Calif.) school district says it could save about $150 million in energy costs over 30 years if voters approve a $348 million facilities bond on the June 8 ballot. The measure would provide 817 projects costing about $202 million at 53 sites, not including contingencies, price increases and management, according to a facilities plan prepared by Pete Pedersen, assistant superintendent for administrative services. The biggest chunk of money — $68 million — would be spent on 51 solar structures, which are expected to save the district $2.8 million a year in utility bills.
