News release: Four higher-education institutions in Virginia are teaming with the Virginia Science Technology Engineering and Applied Mathematics (STEAM) Academy in an effort to establish a public residential academy. The plan envisions a campus with an eventual enrollment of about 1,000 students in grades 9 through 12, as well as a summer residential academy for students in grades 6 to 8. Academy leaders have identified Fort Monroe, a former U.S. Army installation in Hampton, Va., as a potential site for the school. The four universities involved are Virginia Military Institute, Virginia Tech, Old Dominion University, and Norfolk State University.
