$600 million school funding boost sought in Louisiana

Governor proposes what she says is the largest education spending increase ever in the state

Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco has proposed an increase in funding of at least $600 million next year for the state's schools and colleges. More than a third of the new money would go to benefits and raises for educators and school support staffs. Funding for Louisiana colleges would account for about about $100 million of Blanco's planned new spending.
