Budget-cutting plan calls would reduce spending by $100 million

From The Charlotte Observer: Charlotte-Mecklenburg (N.C.) School Superintendent Peter Gorman's $100 million budget-cut plan would eliminate more than 600 teachers, but almost two-thirds could be spared if the scenario improves by spring.

EARLIER...from The Charlotte Observer: Charlotte-Mecklenburg County (N.C.) Schools Superintendent Peter Gorman has recommended cutting more than 1,500 jobs to bridge a $100 million budget gap. The 1,500 jobs would represent about 9 percent of the district's 16,000 employees. Gorman didn't immediately specify how many of the cuts are teaching positions.
