Union expresses concerns that the action is taking place during state testing of students

From The Detroit News: The teachers union in Detroit says the school district is laying off dozens of teachers this week in the middle of statewide testing for the Michigan Education Assessment Program. The layoffs of 87 teachers take effect at the end of the day Friday, the union says. State testing begins Tuesday. A district spokesman says the layoffs will not affect testing.
