Massachusetts plans 10-year education overhaul

Massachusetts Gov. Deval L. Patrick announced Monday that 21 people will serve on a “Readiness Project” leadership council to help develop a 10-year strategy to overhaul education statewide, including timelines and cost estimates.

Patrick first introduced an outline to dramatically expand the state’s public education system in June. Key components include free preschool for 3- and 4-year-olds, full-day kindergarten, extended learning time, and two years of free community college or vocational training for high school graduates.
