ACLU sues New York City over police treatment of public school students

ACLU news release: A lawsuit brought by the American Civil Liberties Union contends that New York City Police Department personnel assigned to city public schools have repeatedly violated students' civil rights through wrongful arrests and the excessive use of force. The lawsuit challenges the conduct and behavior of police officers and school safety officers (SSOs) serving in the police department's School Safety Division. It was filed on behalf of five middle school and high school students who say they were physically abused and wrongfully arrested at school.
