From The Kansas City Star: The day after a knife-wielding student stabbed a dean, Metropolitan Community College-Kansas City Chancellor Mark James says he will focus on “bulletproofing” the campus security plan and improving student and staff emergency notification. After Dean of Instruction Al Dimmitt Jr. was stabbed in the neck, about 45 minutes passed before an electronic communication went out notifying employees on all five campuses about the stabbing, and that the suspect had been apprehended. Officials plan to look at how the emergency notification system may have failed and how it can be improved.

Earlier from The Kansas City Star: A student at a Kansas City, Mo., community college allegedly slashed the throat of the school’s dean of instruction shortly before the Missouri governor was to speak on campus. The dean, Al Dimmitt Jr., was attacked in the Humanities Building of the Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley campus. He underwent surgery for his injuries and was in stable condition. The student, Casey Brezik, 22, with two counts of first-degree assault and two counts of armed criminal action. After the attack, Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon cancelled his planned appearance at Penn Valley. Police were investigating whether Nixon may have been a potential target of the attack.
