North Carolina district voters say no to middle school facility

Voters in Alleghany County, N.C., have overwhelmingly rejected a $7.5 million school-bond package that would have paid for the county’s first middle school. The middle school would have brought all the Alleghany students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades together in one school. The district now has three elementary schools and a high school. Some of the bond money also would have paid for renovations to the auditorium at Sparta Elementary School and additional land at Glade Creek Elementary.
