Alternative campus in Lapeer, Mich., will become middle school

Oct. 22, 2007
Building conversion is part of district's grade reconfiguration.

The Lapeer (Mich.) district is planning to convert its alternative high school facility into a middle school for grades 6 to 8. Currently, the district does not have middle schools; 6th graders attend elementary school, seventh graders are in junior high and eighth graders are in the high school. The Woodside campus, which now houses the alternative program, will become of the district's middle schools. Each grade level will be housed in pods, or wings. The sixth grade will be in the existing west wing; another wing will house seventh and eighth grades. The new Woodside will include three commons areas, including one between the new gymnasium and the cafeteria. There will be another in an area near the seventh and eighth grade wing while the third will be situated near the media center in the central section of the building. The architect is French Associates.
