Former professor in Alabama sentenced to life after murder conviction

From The Huntsville Times: A former professor at the University of Alabama in Huntsville has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for killing three of her colleagues and wounding three others in 2010 during a faculty meeting. Amy Bishop pleaded guilty earlier this month to the shootings, which took place during a faculty meeting at the university on Feb. 12, 2010. Prosecutors presented evidence that Bishop was upset that she had been denied tenure at the school.

Bishop said at the time she accidentally shot her brother while trying to unload her father’s shotgun., and authorities ruled it an accident. But after the Alabama shootings, Massachusetts authorities reviewed the 1986 incident, and Bishop was indicted on a first-degree murder charge.
