Officials say closings will save $3.1 million a year

From The Minneapolis Star-Tribune: The Anoka-Hennepin (Minn.) school board has voted to close six schools -- five elementary and one middle school -- plus an early childhood center and a kindergarten center. It is the first time since the 1950s that Anoka-Hennepin, the state's largest district, has acted to permanently shutter schools. The closings will take effect at the end of the 2009-10 school year. The district, trying to cut its budget and cope with declining enrollment, says the closings will save it $3.1 million a year.

Earlier...from The St. Paul Pioneer Press: Facing a steady decline in enrollment, Anoka-Hennepin (Minn.) school district leaders are expected to decide which schools will be closed for the 2010-11 school year. As many as four schools could be shuttered and a number of others affected as programs are moved around.
