Architecture students compile guidebook on closed school facilities in Kansas City, Mo.

Dec. 21, 2010
The goal is to find new uses for three dozen buildings

From The Kansas City Star: A team of students in the Department of Architecture, Urban Planning and Design at the University of Missouri-Kansas City has spent the past semester building a guidebook to help inform what will be a communitywide effort to deal with about three dozen closed schools. The students packaged land-use reports, zoning charts, demographic data on the density of families and children, analyses of economic strength, and surveys of surrounding amenities, along with estimated costs of maintaining the buildings if not reused.
