Mar 24, 2009 11:30 AM

From The St. Paul Pioneer Press: The Austin (Texas) school board has officially approved a four-year deal to hire Meria Carstarphen as superintendent. Carstarphen, who makes $194,000 as superintendent of St. Paul (Minn.) schools, will receive $275,000 per year in base salary in Austin and up to an additional $25,000 a year based on performance. Carstarphen, 39, has been St. Paul's superintendent since 2006.

FROM FEBRUARY 2009: The Austin (Texas) school board has voted unanimously to name Meria Carstarphen, current superintendent of the St. Paul (Minn.) school district, the sole finalist to replace outgoing Superintendent Pat Forgione. After officially naming a finalist, the board, under state law, must now wait 21 days to sign a contract. State law does not require school districts to name more than one finalist.
