Austin (Texas) school board overrides superintendent, votes to keep middle school open

Austin (Texas) school board has rejected a proposal by the district superintendent to close Webb Middle School. The board directed the superintendent to develop a plan for improving the campus that can be submitted to the state to prevent closure of the school. Superintendent Pat Forgione had recommended that the school be shuttered to avert the possibility that state education officials would close the campus or put it under alternative management if students fail to meet state standards on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills.
