Ball State plans large geothermal conversion

Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., will replace four existing coal-fired stoker boilers with a geothermal system that will provide energy to more than 40 buildings on campus. The phased conversion to geothermal would take place over five to 10 years, depending on the availability of funds. The total cost of the conversion over that period is estimated at $70 million.
