Associate superintendent leaves Baltimore County after 1 year

Apr 29, 2008 12:06 PM

After a year on the job, the Baltimore County public school system's chief academic officer is no longer working for the district. Sonia Diaz, a longtime educator, was hired by the school system in March last year after being fired from her previous job. Diaz, who had been associate superintendent of curriculum and instruction, declined to discuss her employment status. Before coming to Maryland, Diaz was dismissed after four months as head of the Las Cruces public schools in New Mexico. The Las Cruces school board placed Diaz on administrative leave in November 2006 while it investigated complaints that employee morale was suffering under her management. The Las Cruces board fired her in January 2007.
