Texas district outsources food service operations

From The Austin American-Statesman: The Bastrop (Texas) school district has decided to outsource its food service operations. Henry Gideon, the district's chief operations officer, says the move was prompted by changes to guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Students will have more selections and better nutritional choices in the lunch line under the food services management contract with Chartwells. The company has agreed to offer all 89 district employees working in food service similar roles with comparable wages and benefits.
