Missouri elementary school aims for LEED certification

From The Kansas City Star: Bell Prairie Elementary School in Kansas City, Mo., which welcomed its first students this week, has numerous environmental features incorporated into its design and construction. The facility is expected to be the first elementary school in the North Kansas City School District to achieve a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) distinction from the U.S. Green Building Council. One of the more notable sustainable features is a large windmill on the building’s roof, next to a rooftop garden. The windmill is used to help store and recycle rain water to water the garden and other landscaping around the property. The architect is Hollis + Miller Architects.
