Biloxi district plans 9th-grade addition

The Biloxi (Miss.) School District is planning to build a $14 million addition to its high school. It will be used to house ninth-graders, and district officials hope it will be complete by August 2009. The addition will include 34 classrooms and two labs, six offices, a storage room, a work room and an Internet cafe. The space is needed to accommodate ninth-graders, who now attend junior high. When the addition is completed, seventh-graders will move to the junior high, and sixth-graders will take over the seventh-grade school. The freed-up space at elementary schools likely will be used for a pre-kindergarten program. The architect is Guild Hardy Architects.
