From The Bellingham Herald: The $32 million Blaine (Wash.) School District bond appears to have failed. Slightly more than 59 percent of the votes were in favor of the measure, falling just short of the required 60 percent approval needed for school bonds to pass. Only a handful of additional ballots are believed to be outstanding, not enough for the election outcome to change. The bonds would have been used by the district to renovate and expand Blaine High School, purchase land for a future school, and do smaller renovation projects at other schools.

The money would enable the district to remodel and expand Blaine High School; expand the cafeteria and update five classrooms at Blaine Elementary School; and carry out other facility improvements.
