ADetroit Public Schools board member has sought guidance from district lawyers on what it would take to fire Superintendent Connie Calloway just over a year into her five-year contract. Board member Marie Thornton believes the school board has just cause to fire Calloway for exacerbating the district's financial problems and leaving the board in the dark about them. EARLIER: A majority of Detroit school board members say they are unsatisfied with Superintendent Connie Calloway's performance after just one year on the job and voted to reprimand her for "inappropriate behavior." In addition, the board panned the superintendent in her first annual review, with five or more of nine board members giving her unsatisfactory ratings in nearly every category.

The Detroit Public Schools board is expected to consider a formal reprimand of Superintendent Connie Calloway for a series of perceived missteps. The possibility of a reprimand follows a budget process in which several board members say they were blindsided by news of a $408 million deficit after being told by district administrators the school system had a fund surplus. One board member wants the board to consider ousting Calloway.
