Washington Community district wanted funds to convert high school building to middle school

From The Cedar Rapids Gazette: Washington (Iowa) Community School District have decided that Washington High School will not be getting a facelift. About 51 percent of voters – short of the 60 percent needed for passage – said yes to a proposed $9.5 million bond to pay for building renovations of the aging high school and the construction of a new auditorium.

Earlier: The Washington (Iowa) Community School District is asking voters on June 28 to approve a $9.5 million dollar bond request. The money would be used to convert the 1918 high school building into a middle school for grades 6 to 8. It also would pay for upgrading utilities to a geothermal system, replacing windows, doors and lights, and technological improvements in classrooms.
